NicRed Non-Quit Study

The purpose of this research study is to investigate reactions to, and choices to use, cigarettes with varying nicotine content among young adult smokers. You will be asked to come into the lab and smoke investigational cigarettes provided to you by this lab. Some of the cigarettes provided by the lab may contain less nicotine than what is found in most brands, other cigarettes may contain a normal amount of nicotine.

Eligibility Requirements:

Age 18 to 25
Generally Healthy
Occasional Smoker

Study Requirements:

6 visits over the course of 3-7 weeks

Social Smoke

The purpose of this study is to learn about brain responses to social cues and emotional processing among young adult smokers and non-smokers, with and without a history of depression. This study uses fMRI to look at brain function. fMRI is a non-invasive procedure that allows us to take pictures of your brain while you are performing different tasks.

Eligibility Requirements:

Age 18 to 25
Smoker or non-smoker
Right-handed

Study Requirements:

3 visits over the course of about 2 – 6 weeks
